We're delighted to announce that we have won the Glee Sustainability Award! It was awarded to us alongside compost expert partners Growmoor Better Growing, at the Glee 2024 New Product Awards in Birmingham.
The new business, founded by Ashley Day and Chris Holgreaves, partnered with horticulture experts Growmoor Better Growing to create Black Gold Organic, a brand new compost that uses the power of worm casts to improve yields and nutrient and water retention.
“We are delighted to have won the Glee Sustainable Product Award this year,” says Chris.
“We’ve only just launched Black Gold Organic, so for the product to be noticed as the next big thing in sustainable gardening already just proves that it was worth the extensive trials and development to get the blend exactly right.”
Black Gold Organic is an all-purpose compost that can be used all over the garden, including in beds and borders, hanging baskets and even in house plants. With added worm casts, the blend offers up to 8 times bigger yields, better water and nutrient retention and is one of the only organic composts that doesn’t require feeding throughout the growing season.
To make the worm casts to add to the compost, worms are mixed with organic substrate and fed a nutrient-rich organic meal with water. They’re then left for four weeks to naturally produce casts, then are separated so Urban Wyrm and Growmoor can use them in their compost and in pouches of pure worm casts.
With a peat-free version of Black Gold Organic also available, this innovative new compost is suitable for both commercial and home gardeners. At the Four Oaks Trade Show in Cheshire on 3rd September, peat-free sceptics came away with the hope that there are peat-free alternatives that will provide consistent results.
Plus, in a rare move, iconic no-dig gardening pioneer Charles Dowding has become an official affiliated partner of Urban Wyrm and appeared alongside them as a special guest at Glee on 10th September.
Urban Wyrm are at Glee Birmingham between 10th-12th September on Growmoor Better Growing’s stand 7E90-6A91.
